From infrastructure to satisfaction: farmers’ perspectives on a hydro-agricultural development project in Benin
Summary: This study analyzes the level of satisfaction among agricultural producers and the factors that influence it in four municipalities located in central and southern Benin: Dassa-Zoumè, Glazoué, Savalou, and Zagnanado. One hundred and fifty heads of agricultural households were surveyed using a structured questionnaire, according to a stratified random sampling method. The data analysis was based on descriptive statistics, the construction of a score using principal component analysis, and ordered logistic regression. The results reveal a mixed level of satisfaction: 36.4% of producers say they are satisfied, 35.1% are dissatisfied, and 28.5% are neutral, reflecting an overall balanced perception. Agricultural experience, gender, membership in a group, and a larger area under cultivation are associated with increased satisfaction. On the other hand, age, access to land through inheritance, and unfavorable socioeconomic status appear to reduce satisfaction..
Keywords: Farmers’ satisfaction, Agricultural projects, Irrigated schemes.
