Effects of financial inclusion on financial stability in the West African Economic and Monetary Union.
Summary: This paper analyzes the effects of financial inclusion on financial stability in West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU). To do so, it adopts the ARDL model and uses panel data covering the eight WAEMU countries over 2007-2019 period. The model was estimated by the Pooled Mean Group (PMG) method. The findings show that financial inclusion enhances long-term financial stability in WAEMU. In light of these findings, this paper encourages policymakers and monetary authorities in WAEMU to continue implementing the financial inclusion strategy.
