Abstract: This paper evaluates the short and long-run impact of road infrastructure investments on the structural competitiveness of the Burkina Faso economy over the period from 1980 to 2016. The estimates are based on error correction model, a quadratic approach and a spline estimation. The results show that the elasticity of structural competitiveness with respect to road investment is 0.09 in the short run and 0.21 in the long run. The quadratic and spline estimates indicated that the optimal share of 6.42% and the efficiency interval of road infrastructure investment is [5%; 6.42%]. The policy implication that emerges is that an increase in road infrastructure investment is an optimal structural competitiveness enhancing policy for the country's economy provided that the share of road infrastructure investment in the total investment budget is between 5% and 6.42%.
